# 32-Bit vs 64-Bit – Which Version is for me?

Choosing the correct 32-bit or 64-bit option helps ensure the best performance and avoids compatibility problems. When downloading Windows or Office, you’ll often see both options and may not know which one to pick.

When downloading Office or Windows, you’ll often be asked to choose between **32-bit** and **64-bit** versions.

### 💻 How to check what your PC supports (Windows)

Press **Windows + I** to open Settings
Go to **System > About**
Look for **System type**

If you see something like “64-bit operating system, x64-based processor,” then you should install the **64-bit** version.

On Mac
You typically won’t need to choose. Mac installers are usually delivered in a format that matches your system automatically.

### 🔧 What we recommend

For most people, **64-bit** is the best option because it performs better and supports more memory.

Choose **32-bit** only if:

- You’re using an older computer

- Your Windows installation is 32-bit (rare on modern devices)
