Do I Need an Internet Connection to Activate?
In most cases, yes—an internet connection is needed for activation, though there are a few exceptions depending on the product and edition. Here’s how it typically works.

Internet is required for activation
Activation is usually completed online and only takes a short moment.
What happens without internet?
You can still install Office, but it will remain inactive until you connect. You may see a warning banner inside apps like Word reminding you to activate.
One-time activation
After activation is completed, Office can be used offline normally in most scenarios.
Windows 10 / 11
Internet is strongly recommended
Online activation is the standard and fastest method.
