# Solve Error 0xC004F050

If you’re getting error 0xC004F050 while activating Windows, it almost always points to a simple issue: the key is being entered on a Windows edition that doesn’t match it. This is one of the most frequent activation errors, and it’s typically resolved as soon as the correct edition is installed or switched. ❗ Why this happens

**❗ Why this happens**

Your key may be valid, but it can only activate a specific Windows edition. For example:

- A **Windows 10 Pro** key won’t activate **Windows 10 Home**

- A **Windows 11 Pro** key won’t activate **Windows 11 Home**

If the installed edition and the key don’t match, Windows will reject it and show **0xC004F050**.

**✅ How to fix it**

If you need to switch from **Home to Pro**, use our upgrade guide and follow the steps exactly. After the edition change is complete, you can enter your purchased key to finish activation.
